Cheltenham AutoFest 2009
First of all, if you came, thanks so much for your support. If you didn’t, read on and make sure you don’t miss it this year.
After months of careful planning and preparation for our first show, the good old British weather looked like it was going to let us down. For once, the met office was not entirely wrong! Friday dawned damp and showery, but despite this, by mid afternoon show-goers were arriving steadily and the camp site starting to fill.
By the evening, Mark and Stuart had cranked up the music, the bar was filling and everyone was enjoying a chatty relaxed evening, a bit of drinking, a bit of dancing, and a general good time was had by all.
Saturday was glorious! The sun shone, it was warm and I think for the first time we could see what a lovely venue we had. We had always known it was good in terms of facilities, but it just looked so pretty, a lovely idyllic sunny setting. A fabulous backdrop with the rumble of V8’s or blatting bikes to set it off – perfect!
More people arrived, some took the opportunity to go off and explore Cheltenham, and some travelled just a mile or so down the road to the support Shires Classic Bike Show, a one day local event raising funds for the Air Ambulance, some just chilled out on site and prepared for the Saturday night party. The band “May Contain Nuts” was brilliant, talented guys playing a real mix of music that had the room jumping. Blue Ridge Runners did us proud with their Gangster theme and I seem to remember a bicycle being ridden around the dance floor at one point, much to the astonishment of the bar staff (cheers Cider!)
Sunday – the show day
Weather could have been better, but it didn’t rain. That given, we had a fantastic attendance, such an array of vehicles. Lorries, Big ol truck rigs, British and American classics across a range of eras, V-Dubs, bikes, dragsters, tot-rods, they were all there. If you love automobiles, this was an interesting show, so many different things to look at and enjoy. We had the trade stalls and a pig-roast and trophies, check out the gallery 2009 presentations section for all the winners of trophy’s, we had it all – well could probably have done with a touch more sun.
For a first year we were delighted. The venue worked out well, staff at the Football club were great – and very taken with car show people. We learnt a few lessons for 2010 - must get more toilets for one!!
If you came and want to give us any feedback on what you thought, we’d like to hear it. Please email us.
If you didn’t come last year, make sure you put us on you’re calendar for this year which promises to be an even better show for 2010.
